When
a family learns that a loved one is nearing the end of life, they may
become overwhelmed – with fear, depression or a sense of isolation. It is
for these patients and families that hospice was created.
Singing
River Hospital System’s Hospice of Light, the first hospice to serve
Jackson County, is a unique kind of care devoted to allowing terminally
ill patients the opportunity to live their final days to the fullest.
Surrounded by family members and people who love them, patients can live
out their lives with dignity in the comfort of their own homes or a
home-like environment. Hospice of Light unites the patient and his family
with compassionate medical professionals and volunteers to form a warm,
supportive network of caregiving.
Hospice
of Light enhances the quality of a dying patient’s life by emphasizing the
dignity of the individual and
the strength of the family unit. Under the supervision of the medical
director and attending physician, nurses, social workers, chaplains,
counselors and home health aides perform as a team to ensure the highest
quality of life for the patient. They provide a combination of medical,
spiritual and emotional care.
Every
effort is made to ensure that a patient is able to remain at home during
his illness. To this end, Hospice of Light makes available a
comprehensive range of services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
